The strength of concrete depends on the ratio of concrete. The ratio of concrete is expressed as 136 124 or 1153. 124 is considered in most cases. For high strength of concrete 1153 is used.Mixed ratio is measured by standard a basket that contains a bag of cement. The size of the standard bucket is 45cm height 30 cm length and 30 cm width volume 1.25 ft3 or 0.035375m as sand increases in volume with presence of small amount of water in it this increase of volume of sand due to bulking of sand should be considered while volume calculation of sand. In the case of 25 bulking of sand the volume of sand to be considered would be 1.25 times the original volume.Water Cement RatioThe strength of concrete depends on water cement ratio. The water content ratio is calculated on the basis of weight of water and cement. The amount of water in concrete will be such that the fresh concrete will be workable as well as hardened concrete will have enough strength to withstand desired loads. Excess water decreases the strength of concrete.We know one bag of cement is 5 Kg. if its water cement ratio is 0.55. Than water will be 0.55 X 50Kg. 27. 27.5 Kg. 27.5 Liters.Mixing of Concrete The volume of casting is comparatively smaller quantity mixing will be done by hand mix other wise mixture machine may be use. Mixture shall be homogenous. 5-10 water of total volume shall be put on turning drum before cement sand and aggregate are applied for mixing.Carrying and Placing ofAfter mixing of concrete it should be carried to the specified sites as quickly as possible. All mixed concrete place with at final position within 45 minute. Mixed concrete shall not be placed beyond Im height. Excess water should not add while placing or vibrating the concrete.Vibration of ConcreteConcrete should be compacted by means of vibration. It can be done by means of vibratory or poking concrete with the help of rods .all vibration will be completed before initial setting of time. Vibration will compact of fresh concrete. In absence of vibrator 16mm diameter rod can be used as vibrator.CuringCuring increases the strength of concrete. Cement contains some chemical ingredient that require to hydrolysis for chemical reaction to form a rock like substance. The reaction takes place up to 21 to 28 days. For this reason curing of concrete is required to be done for 28 days. Curing is an environment that helps hydrolysis of cement. It is generally done by spreading water to the concrete surface or covering it with wet sacks so that the water in the concrete does not evaporate. It is generally started after 16 to 24 hour of casting.Quality Control of ConcreteConcrete is produced from cement coarse aggregates fine aggregates and water. As a result quality of concrete will depend on many factors. A few are Properties of the ingredients. Proportion of ingredients. Water Cement Ratio. Slump test should be performed immediately after collection of the sample but not later than 10 minutes after completion of mixing. Minimum three samples will be required for testing from each batch.Reinforcing RodRein ForcemeatThe concrete can resist compression but not tension. For this reason reinforcing rods are provided in the concrete to sustain tension that develops in concrete. Rods will have desired tensile strength.SAFETY PLANFor Example Jacket Cap and Emergency Box for staff at site.General-It is the keen desire of the AMD to abide by a principal policy by making strenuous efforts from management to the subordinate level of supervision for a safe working environment on all projects the company initiates.The primary anxiety of the companys management is to assure and establish definitive safety and health standards throughout its organization. The safety and health standards directive safety plan safety instructions and hazard analysis plan will be enforced through training meeting inspections and management supervision.The companys policy is to assure its employees engaged in routine and hazardous construction work are protected form injury whether they are minor or fatal. On or off the construction work are protected from injury whether they are minor or fatal. On or off the job. Further. The company will not be encumbered by funds expenditures to support its safety program.6.01 Compliance6.01.1 AMD shall strive to maintain full compliance with the USACE Safety requirements manual EM 385-1-1.6.01.2 in order to assist in achieving safety goal immediately the following interim standards is used by the AMD as a minimum AMD acceptable standard when full compliance with the EM 385-1-1 is not possible. AMD will provide these standards in to their workforce in the Pashto Dari languages and will provide training as needed to ensure worker awareness. Basic safety and health standards for construction.A- AMD construction team will assure safety on every job site and prevent serious. All unsafe conditions will e reported and the hazard reduced before work is proceeding.B- Some time personal protective Equipment PPE are not available to every worker. where the equipment required by the USACE Safety manual EM 385-1-1 cannot be provided in a timely manner AMD will develop methods that will provide a similar degree of safety as AMD accepted by USAE and not expose the workers to serious risk. The mandatory minimum standards for all PPE will be-FootwearClosed-toe durable shoes or boots shall be worn by all workers on the project site no sandals or sports shoes will be allowed at no time will workers be allowed on the project site with bare feet. Safety footwear steel-toe or other protection should be worn by workers using steel rollers tampers jack hammers or carrying heavy objects metal concrete stone.Head ProtectionWhen they are available hard hats should be worn by all construction workers when they are at the project. Hard hats shall be worn in overhead hazard areas including material hoisting lifting operations areas below scaffolds and other elevated work in excavations and low ceiling areas that have sharp or hazardous projections. If they are not available then workers shall be kept away from these and other overhead hazard areas.RespiratorsWorkers exposed to toxic chemicals vapors gases and dusts will wear proper respiratory protection. Such exposure is expected in asbestos removal repair work working with paints and solvents in rooms or enclosed spaces and fuel production facilities. The employer will be train the workers in the uses of the respirator and how to properly wear it. The minimum AMD acceptable respirator is a negative pressure filter or cartridge half-face respirator that its correctly equipped of the hazard. Contractors shall consult and follow the ACGIH guidance for length of allowable exposure to the contaminant and workers shall not exceed the recommended time for exposure. Dust masks will be worn when the work is producing visible dust.Eye ProtectionWorkers shall wear protective glasses goggles or visors when exposed to eye hazards these hazards include concrete dust stone and concrete chips from hammering sandblasting and power tool cutting or milling. Workers performing welding and cutting with torches or arc-welding equipment shall wear the proper shaded lenses in face shields and or goggles.Hearing ProtectionProtective ear plugs shall be worn when workers are exposed to potentially damaging noise including jack hammers flight line operations and power saws and grinders and combustion engines without mufflers.GlovesAll workers shall have protective gloves appropriate to the task.ClothingWorkers shall wear clothing that protects their skin from damage shirts and long pants at a minimum. Workers exposed to welding operation chemicals abrasive blasting wet concrete asbestos and other hazardous contaminants will wear appropriate clothing for the hazard. Workers using power tools or operating equipment shall not wear very loose or flowing clothing that may get caught in the equipment.Work methods for Highly Hazardous WorkThe following types of work and hazards are recognized as the leading cause of serious injuries and deaths in construction work. Each type of work has specific PPE and safety equipment that is required to do the work and also specific procedures that shall be followed every time the work is done. These interim measures are the minimum AMD acceptable precautions. For each project an Activity Hazard Analysis AHA shall be completed and when possible compliance with more restrictive methods of the EM 385-1-1 shall be achieved. Workers shall be trained on the following safety precautions the nature of the hazards involved and any additional work methods used before performing each type of work.ExcavationThe site safety and Health officer will be contacted for inspection of the work prior to digging. The AMD will assist in any safety equipment or techniques that are required to avoid injury. They will also provide a safety check on the location to assure the there are no underground hazards at the site.A11- excavation or unsafe areas will be marked with barricades or warning tape. These warning shall be maintained and visible until the area is restored to a safe condition. When workers will enter trenches the walls shall be sloped AMD according to the type of soil or shoring trench boxes or other structures will be used to protect workers from collapsing walls. Soil removed from trenches will not be placed at the edge of the trench it shall be placed back at least 1 meter from the edge. Vehicles and construction equipment shall not be parked closer than 2 meters from the edge of an excavation.Excavation walls shall be inspected regularly during each day to heck for cracks bulges large stones sandy areas and failure of the wall if these conditions are nobody may enter the excavation and the damaged area shall be dub out o braced.STRATEGY PLAN1. AMD has equipment and vehicles in several construction sites in various provinces of Afghanistan. The mobilization required to move the equipment to the project site will be very nominal and available equipment should be on site within a week after issue of NTP.2. Mobilization goal for a required equipment will required at least 2 days.3. the AMD director General General and the rest of the company management staff for the project will be able to fully assemble during this initial mobilization period AMD currently has the available staff needed to work on this projectthe first week of the project will be a crucial time for the proper assembling of all needed materials manpower and equipment. Any question regarding proper stone masonry techniques are materials would be requested to the QCO and FE representatives prior to work commencing.4 BRICK MASONRYBrick will be burned of best quality and will be examined for engendering tests and rules before using in construction.
